I don't know why everyone thinks Fat Witch is so great. They're mostly dry and they don't have that "brownie thing" that makes you crazy wanting a brownie.

You might want to try Mari's Brownies in the Limelight Marketplace. They're really chocolatey and moist. The flavors are cool, like Thai Coffee, Caramel Sea Salt, and (my favorite)Coconut, in addition to kickass Classic and Classic with Walnuts.

If you're craving a brownie, Mari's will totally scratch that itch.

Since you gave such a thorough review of "dining" at the Salsa y Salsa, I thought I'd chime in with a review of what it's like to order from there. To put it succinctly: I think this place should be closed down and converted into a comedy club because it's clearly full of a bunch of jokers. The first time I ordered from here, I asked for enchiladas with molé sauce, and received enchiladas with salsa verde instead. Fine; perhaps it was a small mistake, so I didn't call back to have them correct it. The next time I ordered, I asked for two orders of enchiladas with molé sauce; each order arrived with molé sauce AND salsa verde. That time I did call back and asked them to deliver me what I ordered. In return, I received one enchilada with molé sauce and one with salsa verde. Thinking the third time must be a charm, I called back, had to repeat my order 5 TIMES, and then actually, miraculously, got the correct order. As if that wasn't bad enough, the third time I ordered from this place (I know, by now you are wondering why ever went back. The reason is that the first two incidents happened months ago and I was actually giving the place another shot because I'm not into writing places off), I asked for one order of panuchos and one crispy chicken taco, and instead received two orders of panuchos (which were disgustingly soggy when they arrived). When I called back to have my order corrected, the person taking my order told me he'd send the taco ("No problem!" he said, which I consider an insult to my experience with this place), but that I should send one of the panuchos back (which I am pretty sure is against health code). When the taco arrived it too was soggy and did NOT come with the rice and beans it was supposed to. Don't order delivery from here unless you enjoy the experience of paying to be a joke and swallowing a crap load of frustration.

A great way to experience Chelsea market is thru the Zerve food tours. I have been to a couple of these tours (West Village and Chelsea Mkt.) and my wife has been to even more (Chocolate and Wine UWS and a couple others). It is about 40 bucks, with very knowledgeable guides, you get filled up and hit up many places at once.

On a touristy scale of 1 to 10, I only give it a 5, with a double decker bus being a 10 and anything times square a 7+.

I live very close to London Lennies, and have been there more times than I can count. What I've learned over the years is to stick to the raw and the simply prepared. If I do that, I leave happy every time. Their oysters are beyond fresh (the kumomotos are my fave), the seafood tower is a meal for two all by itself, and their linguini with red clam sauce is some of the best I've tasted. I agree with your fellow diners that some of the fish dishes (on the specials list) can be dry. I've learned my lesson and rarely look at that section.
The service is great. The drinks even better. Try the Bloody Lenny! Excellent Bloody Mary mix and a huge shrimp as a garnish justify the price tag- I believe it was $9 or $10 last time I ordered it. Also, and this is the best part, LL has my all time favorite beer- Hitachino! Never heard of it? Look it up. The tasties, crispest, most flavorful (without being overwhelming) beer on the planet! I literally know of one other place that carries it. I'd go there just for the beer and oysters for sure. We're lucky to have this place in the neighborhood. And really- their sushi is quite good for a non traditiona sushi place. I was pleasantly surprised!

I live right across the street from Pio Pio, so needless to say I eat there and take out quite often. A better chicken I've yet to meet. The green spicy sauce (for drowning the juicy meat in) is their amazingly delicious avocado sauce. I could drink it by the glass it's so good! The lime sauce you referred to is actually their dressing. I use it on the only salad they have: the avocado salad. It is a bowl of standard lettuce- with tomatoes, sliced carrots, onions, celery and of course a fanned out serving of half an avocado on top. Once I'm done with the avocado and tomatoes I don't bother finishing the rest of the salad. It's really nothing to crow about. What you SHOULD have gotten for your a side are their beans (some of the best I've tried, with nice slices of cooked peppers and onions, not too thin, lots of thick liquid to soak into the rice). And I agree that the rice is really very good. Another fun side is the salchipapas. Yup, french fries with sliced hotdogs :) It's really a meal all in itself. I actually really like their fries, so I'm happy to order this anytime. And finally the sangria. Their pitchers hold about 4-5 generous glasses. The drink is STRONG so you'll be walking out tipsy. It's also very sweet. It's tasty, with alot of really nice flavors but sometimes becomes overwhelming. I definitely have to be in the mood for it.

The gnocchi are little pillows of heaven. I've never tasted any like them before. Just thinking about them now makes my mouth water! Went with friends who had been there before and loved everything I tried. One note on the mushroom risotto (which was a special that night)- it was most certainly NOT a risotto. Neither in rice type, nor consistency. Having said that, it was a passible rice dish. That was my one and only negative from that night! Otherwise LOVED the place. The interiaor is lovely beyond belief, but much smaller than I imagined.

P.S. Service was excellent: the bartender came over to uncork our wine and chat (the place was packed), and the waitress was friendly and helpful.

i love this place--go there as often as i can. was there on friday, in fact, and had a great special: seafood stuffed avocado. it was expensive ($11) and small but really tasty. their potato skins are the best i've had, too. they are deep fried, as they should be. also, believe it or not, their pizza is delicious! don't even bother w/the fancy pizza options and just get the woodhaven house plain pizza ($9). thin-crust, perfect amount of cheese vs. sauce, not too salty or greasy.

will say i didn't love their brunch, though.

also, they have great bands on weekends. go see Catalyst (next there on July 10)--a rock cover band, mostly 80s and 90s, but also some 70s and 00s.

i'm moving to long island, and WH is one of the places i will miss most.

Thats one of my old neighborhoods, I don't think it was there when I lived there. It seems reasonably priced. For one of the best Italian restaurants with the best service in the city go just up 1st ave and try Pinnochio at 91st and 1st. Mark is the owner/maitre'd and a hell of a host. The truffle tortolloni the lady gets every time is fantastic although I don't know why you would get it EVERY time.

I had a horrible experience there, too. The owner/chef drinks on the job & talks too much. I went w/my hubby & we both felt uncomfortable w/his sexist & arrogant jokes - he kept tryin to convince me to come work for him. And then on top of that, he started going off on his staff. Yelling & Cursing. Very unprofessional. The food was gross. Everything sat in a pile of slimy oil - he tries to get u to buy more stuff. Will not go back.
